News and Highlights Students Visit Traveling Vietnam Wall posted by Nikolette Langdon
Clarksville High School students from Mr. Ferree and Mr. Gray’s junior and senior classes were able to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall on Friday, Sept. 14.
The Traveling Wall made a stop in Clarksville from Sept. 13-16, and the students were fortunate enough to become a part of this special occasion.
“This was a big hometown event,” Dean Gray said. “Students should be proud of what their town has done to bring this exhibit here.”
More than 58,000 names of those who gave their lives during the Vietnam War are inscribed on the wall, and the names of the honored dead were read continuously for four days.
Mr. Gray and five CHS students took part in reading the names while CHS was visiting the Wall.
When visiting a memorial as a group, it is a tradition to dedicate a wreath, and Clarksville High School took part in a ceremony to dedicate a wreath at the Traveling Wall (Thank you to Clarksville Flowers and Gifts for donating the wreath).
A special opportunity that each student was able to do was take a pencil rubbing of the name of a Veteran whose name is engraved on the Memorial Wall.
One name in particular, Herbert Logsdon Jr., was of upmost significance to the students who stood and waited patiently to copy his name on a piece of paper.
Herbert Logsdon Jr., Corporal in the United States Army, was a 1962 Graduate of Clarksville High School who died in 1969 at age 24.
